Area 4 To Host Two Local Final Leg Runs
Shelby County hosts leg on May 12, Louisville Metro on May 14

Still recovering from all the activity the 2005 Kentucky Derby brought to the area, the Torch Run volunteers of Area 4 will hold two local runs leading up to the Area 4 Spring Games on Saturday, May 14.

The Shelby County Sheriff's Office will host a run through Shelby County on Thursday, May 12 starting at 11 am. The two-mile run begins in the Veuhner's Market Parking lot, goes through town past the Shelbyville City Hall and ends at the Governor's Square McDonald's. Law Enforcement personnel interested in participating in the run should contact Deputy Vance Simmons in the Shelby County Sheriff's Office at 502-633-4324.

Several agencies in Louisville Metro will take part in that local Final Leg on Saturday, May 14. In addition this year, the Louisville run will include family members on a shorter route than in years past. Participants should meet at the Camelot Shopping Center on Lyndon Lane at 8 am. Walkers will leave the lot with a police escort at 8:30 am and runners will leave with the torch at 8:45. The 1.3-mile route ends at Ballard High School where the Torch Run participants will escort the "Flame of Hope" into the stadium during the Opening Ceremonies for the 2005 Area 4 Spring Games. Transportation will be provided back to the Camelot Shopping Center. Anyone interested in participating in the run should contact Patsy Meyer at (502) 473-0388.
